The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform soon, and audience theories has been intense.
Season 1 introduces a diverse group of personalities residing in the afterlife, sets them at odds with songs detailing their conflicts, and builds tense rivalries and emotional bonds that fuel fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 differ greatly, but certain themes recur frequently: Will Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the binding agreement affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the creator commented recently. "However I feel like me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also am eager for these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by the production companies, which finance the series.
That could imply viewers have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they could be shocked at how fast season 2 moves, and how much of what they're anticipating happens now.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some incredible reveals, some really cool backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — especially in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a few fans make a bingo card about season 2," she says. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
