Devastating Update on Cargo Plane Accident: Death Toll Increases to 13

The total count of fatalities resulting from the transport jet that ignited and plummeted has climbed to 13, as confirmed by latest announcements.

City Leader's Remarks

“On my way to the Union’s memorial service, I learned of a 13th person that lost their life as a result of the aircraft accident,” stated the city mayor in a online message. “My prayers is with the loved ones, companions and peers of all who were taken in this week’s tragedy. We will endure this together.”

Deceased Confirmed

A release from the carrier named the pilots on board the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as Captain Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our sympathies reach out to every staff member who has been impacted and all in our local region – helping you and guaranteeing you obtain the attention and resources you need is our priority,” the organization’s statement read.

Probe Updates

Federal authorities disclosed that the freight aircraft’s port side wing burst into flames and an engine fell off soon after takeoff from the aviation hub, leading to the aircraft to crash and explode into a fireball.

The safety agency has said it is probing the jet’s maintenance history, that was in Texas for maintenance weeks before the crash.

Aircraft records showed the plane was on the ground in that location from the start of last month to 18 October.

“We are knowledgeable that this aircraft was there in San Antonio,” remarked an official on later, without providing a specific period. “We will examine each aspect of maintenance that was performed, from the repair period, right up to the date of the flight.”

Retrieval of Critical Components

The cockpit voice recorder and information unit were found, and the motor was discovered on the tarmac.

The recorders – known as data containers – were constructed to endure accident forces and extreme temperatures from blazes, and they seemed to be undamaged when found amid the remains. Investigators plan on analyzing information from the black boxes.

Aircraft’s concluding flight details indicated an elevation of that level and a speed of 210 miles per hour ahead of the crash.

Maintenance History

Based on FAA records from last month, a fracture on a component inside the center wing fuel tank needed fixes.

Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which indicated it offers structural repairs for the company’s MD-11 and runs a repair facility in San Antonio, declined to comment, but stated it would cooperate fully when investigators approached it.

Services Resume

In the meantime, UPS Worldport operations continued Wednesday night with its overnight also known as nighttime operation, spokesperson a representative stated. All three runways at the airport were likewise reopened.

The distribution hub in Louisville is the organization’s biggest. The facility employs more than a large number of people in the region, processes 300 aircraft daily and organizes in excess of four hundred thousand parcels per hour.

Local Support

A memorial was organized on the late afternoon of 6 November by the local worker’s group, which supports employees at the Louisville airport, the company’s primary freight center.

Teamsters Local 89, which stands for UPS workers, commenced the memorial with a period of reflection at 5.14pm, the estimated hour of the accident before.

“This tragedy was so sudden, so unforeseen,” the leader spoke to the crowd of 200. “No one had a moment to say goodbye to each of those who we have mourned.”
